Bartholomew fair was held annually, from its establishment in 1133 until it was surpressed in 1855, on the eve of St Batholomew's Day. 24th August. It was originally a cloth fair, but by the seventeeth century it had become more important as a centre of general entertainment. This print was published in The Microcosm of London.
