These planter plates were thrown on the pottery wheel

The clay is an ivory colored ceramic stoneware with dark speckles

The outside of the bowls were intentionally left unglazed and were highly burnished

then decorated with a yellow underglaze

the design was carved by hand using the sgraffito technique revealing the contrasting clay underneath
